Bloodstrike Comic Book Optioned

August 21, 2012 Bloodstrike, Rob Liefeld’s 1990s team of undead super-soldiers, are marching toward the big screen.

Variety reports that Adi Shankar’s 1984 Private Defense Contractors has acquired the film rights, with Shankar, Liefeld and Liefeld’s manager Brooklyn Weaver producing.

Debuting in 1993 from Liefeld’s Extreme Studios, Bloodstrike centered on a top-secret squad of super-powered assassins created by the government’s Project: Born Again, which brought people back from the dead. The series was resurrected earlier this year, in a reimagined form, alongside fellow Extreme titles Prophet and Youngblood.

Shankar’s company has co-financed such films as The Grey, Killing Them Softly and Dredd 3D. He also produced the well-received recent short “The Punisher: Dirty Laundry.”

Bloodstrike will be R-rated,” Liefeld wrote last night on Twitter. “Adi Shankar the real deal.”
