Villains Comic Book Optioned

October 29, 2008 It looks like Viper Comics’ somewhat under-the-radar (but loads of fun) “Villains” miniseries is the latest comics title to gain the attention of Hollywood, with Universal picking up the rights to adapt the project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Wonder Woman” screenwriters Matt Jennison and Brent Strickland will pen a script for the film.

“Villains,” written by Adam Cogan with art by Ryan Cody, follows a down-on-his-luck character who discovers a super-powered suit — and its ex-supervillain owner — and subsequently decides that his future lies in being the bad guy.

Sean Bailey is producing via his Idealogy banner, which counts Disney’s upcoming “Tron” reboot, “TR2N,” on its slate of projects. Idealogy’s Matt Smith is executive producing, with Viper Comics’ Jessie Garza co-producing on the project.

While THR classifies the graphic novel as “upcoming,” the first “Villains” miniseries debuted back in 2006, and a second volume is on the way.
